Both satellite climate data and landuse/landcover data from 1986 and 2023, and social survey were used in this study to assess the recent extreme weather events as evident in changes in urban land surface temperature (LST) and urban heat island (UHI) in two major cities in southwestern Nigeria. This study aims at examining the societal implications of urban land surface temperature changes as indicator of climate change in southwestern Nigeria.
